Touring of Christmas Train Displays

Earlier today, we checked out our two closest train gardens, the Ellicott City Fire Station and the B&O Railroad Museum in Ellicott City.

The E.C. fire station passed out kiddie fireman helmets and candy canes. The display was a lot more elaborate and impressive than I was expecting. There is a donation box for contributing what you can. All in all, a fun and cheap family activity.

Warning, candy canes get sticky!

There was a cost for admission at the B&O Railroad Museum in Ellicott City. Six bucks each adult, and, free for kids under 2. Honestly, I didn’t really feel it was worth the $12 we paid, especially since we are on a limited budget. We won’t be adding this to our yearly Christmas traditions, but it was cool to see once. Several rooms have more realistic looking train displays, but the main attraction was the huge Lego train room.

I know that I mentioned this before, but the Wise Avenue Volunteer Fire Co. in Dundalk has a very nice & huge display. Admission is $1 and they have the traditional donation box. We’ve gone every year with my Dad – it’s a tradition! Apparently, back in the day my Dad was in charge of keeping us busy for the day while my Mom Christmas shopped, so this is what he came up with. He would gather all of the kids in the neighborhood and their Dad’s and we would go around the area looking at train gardens.

Oh, before I forget, we went to the Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department’s display after Thanksgiving this year. It was small, compared to others that I’ve been to, but it was low to the ground so the little heads could see everything. Admission was free, but there was a donation box. I would recommend this place as well, for a quick stop.

Thanks for the heads up about the EC Fire Station – we’ll try to hit that one up when the Ohio gang stops in for the Holidays!
