Earth Day Resolutions

Happy Earth Day!

I feel like it’s New Years all over again, as I’m finding myself making all sort of resolutions for Earth Day:

  • Get our new bike trailer set up so I can take Ellie further without driving.  We used our REI 20% coupon and dividends to pick one up.  Our town is set up with tons of bike paths so we can avoid the roads on our trips to the library, farmers market, grocery shopping, play dates at the park.  (This will also help me in my Iron Girl Triathlon training.)

  • Become a little more adventurous and start using our cloth diapers for more nites and trips away (probably not my upcoming trip to CA, though).

  • Try my hand at some un-paper towels and napkins, like my friend Danielle.  Between the babe and the pups, we go through SO MANY paper towels it’s beyond ridiculous.

  • Men cover your eyes…  Forgo disposable pads and go back “on the rag”.  Tons of cute ones can actually be found on ETSY, but I’m going to make my own.  (I warned you, menfolk!)

  • Get the clotheslines set up outside and in our porch for all this nice weather.  They are sitting and waiting to be installed.

  • Start composting more kitchen scraps to add to our bin outside.  Most of the time we just put in yard waste and ignore the thing.

  • Plant one or two vegetables to try my hand at growing my own organic food out back.  What should I try first?

  • Continue to give/sell our things instead of throwing away.  Just freecycled things to three people last week.

  • Start my ETSY shop to upcycle items.  (Secret projects in the works.)

Any of these things sound like something you’d like to do?  What ideas do you have?

You will share with me how you’re going to make your RAGS? right? I want to make a clothing line but for now my portable line will do. we started composting this year, and we added more plots to our garden. Try growing tomatoes or cucumbers. Something you could easily add to a salad.

Will definitely share how I do stuff. I love tomatoes so that’s probably one I’ll go with. May also try red peppers since I’m always buying so many of them.

HAHAHA i just check out the un-paper towels link. That is very cool. I might have to make a few cloth clean ups. Currently we use these awesome things called SKOY. Its like a paper towel, but reusable.

    Thanks for the link!

I *love* my unpaper towels. My only complaint is that I upcycled my old towels which are really disgusting. I have no clue how I killed towels, but they’re really killed. So my unpaper towels aren’t as pretty as the ones other people make, sad. The unpaper towels are AWESOME for cleanups though… one cleans up EVERYTHING. The best part is that after Godric eats his breakfast, I hand him a warm wet unpaper towel and he cleans his face off for me… he loves sucking on warm wash cloths, lol.

The mama cloth is ALSO awesome. Why women ever switched to disposables is beyond me. I actually need to make more or buy some. I’m tempted to just buy it because using terrycloth inside them is kind of bulky for the heavy pads. It’s also a PITA to make MC without a serger… turn and topstitch is really aggravating, especially with all the corners it has. But yeah- it’s so much more comfortable. It makes me dread AF a little less.

Anyhow, I can’t wait to see what you put up on your Etsy shop! How exciting! We’ll have to discuss how you’re doing everything… I want to start a small shop for the item I’m trying to make, but I’m scared I’ll mess up the legal/business part… I have no clue what I’m doing. I can make stuff… that I’m good at. Otherwise, ugh.
