Looks like we didn’t win the Mega Millions jackpot, after all. But, weekends in Spring can be a great time to find some steals at yard sales in your area! Think of all those people in the midst of cleaning out…
I almost drove past this yard sale, but something caught the corner of my eye and I had to turn back around. So glad I did!
I miss hiking and have considered getting a baby carrier backpack so that I can do some longer hikes, but THOSE PRICE TAGS?! Ouch! They are not cheap, so I’ve been keeping my eye out for a good deal on one.
I was prepared to pay at most $4o or so when I walked up their driveway. But, it was marked FIVE DOLLARS. Insanity! It’s in pretty great shape, too. It’s clearly been used a lot (which means it can’t be that uncomfortable) and I think with some washing up, it will work out great.
Hey, for five bucks, what’s the risk?
This carrier is made in USA by Tough Traveler. I can’t figure out what model it is closest to because it’s clearly older and doesn’t match any particular one. Looks like it could have cost anywhere between $140 and $204 if new. And, it’s MINE for 5 clams. So psyched!
It can be hard to find things like jogging strollers and baby backpacks on Craig’s List or at consignment stores/expos because they get bought up SO FAST! But, I find that you can usually have better luck with yard sales.
Let the yard sale season begin! Happy hunting…and hiking! Can’t wait to hit the trail like old times.
What are you in search of this yard sale season?

You are so lucky. Two weeks ago I bought a Kelty TC 3.0 Child Carrier for my daughter and had to throw down $113 on Amazon (now priced $143, so maybe I’m lucky) to get it. We were fortunate in that we had a few Amazon.com gift cards left over as baby gifts from my coworkers and it covered the whole price of the carrier, but still that sure isn’t cheap. I went with the Kelty since my sister-in-law has one and I carried around her 1-year old daughter in it for a good 5 hour in San Diego a couple years back, so I knew the product worked for me. The one you got looks just as functional and you got it for the right price. You’ll have to let us know how it works out for you.
This summer I’ll be looking for a big wheeled stroller for “off the path” walks and also a baby carrier attachment for my bike (like the ones that go behind the bike). I’ll be scouting Craigslist and yard sales over the next few months for one. Hopefully I’ll get as good a deal as you got on your backpack!!!

Yes, we definitely lucked out with that pack. And, we were lucky to have a family member get us a big-wheeled jogging stroller. They really are fantastic to have. Highly recommend a BOB if you can find one. We’re also on the market for a bike trailer. I saw an Instep Presto on sale right now for $89 in the recent Target mailer (I believe it was Target). I couldn’t find out too much about it online, but it’s definitely a discontinued model and probably good if you’re only using it occasionally. We’re looking for a slightly heavier duty one. REI only seems to have the higher end ones, but if you want one of those, now would be the time to get one because you can use their mega $20 off coupon on it. Good luck!
